Geometry in the Real World
Also known as applied geometry / trigonometry
This is geometry doing real jobs: guiding GPS, drawing computer graphics, shaping buildings, and flattening the round Earth onto a map. It's the study of shape, distance and space put to work. The reach is huge: in politics, whether a voting district is a 'gerrymander' comes down to measuring how grotesquely its shape has been twisted to trap voters; in geography, a deep theorem proves you literally cannot flatten a sphere without distorting it, so every world map lies a little and it's not the mapmaker's fault; and in art, Renaissance painters cracked projective geometry with a paintbrush, discovering that the vanishing point is really a point at infinity long before mathematicians wrote it down. Geometry sounds like dusty triangles, but it's quietly deciding elections, maps and what you see on every screen.
