- Health, Medicine & the Body
Your body is a small ecosystem, and it obeys the same rules as forests and rivers. Your brain has no drainpipes, so it only flushes its toxic garbage — including the gunk linked to Alzheimer's — during deep sleep, a cleanup that only runs when you're offline. And wiping out gut bacteria with antibiotics lets a nasty species bloom like a weed after a wildfire, which is why a fecal transplant works by rewilding the ruined gut.

How a society gets its water and food quietly decides who holds power. Civilizations built on giant irrigation needed a strong central boss to run the canals — and that boss hardened into a dictator; the plumbing shaped the politics.
