Also known as exams and grading / formative vs summative assessment
There is an old rule: what gets measured gets taught. Put a big high-stakes exam at the end of the road, and schools quietly reshape everything they do to chase that score, sometimes helpfully, sometimes by drilling narrow tricks. This is the same trap seen in Economics, where central banks learn that any target they chase starts to distort. It links to Politics and public policy, where governments measure the wrong things and get gamed, and to Health systems, where scoring hospitals on one metric can twist how they actually treat people.

Hospitals told to cut wait times just park patients in ambulances outside; schools told to raise scores just drill the test. That trap, where the target eats the meaning, is called Goodhart's law, and it's a policy graveyard.
