Civil and structural engineering is the craft of designing bridges, buildings, roads, and water systems that carry the weight and traffic of daily life without cracking or collapsing. The forces flowing through a beam obey the same logic that holds a living cell together — molecular biology and structures both fight to stay stable under stress. Because these systems are the backbone a country runs on, they overlap with protecting critical infrastructure from attack, with public health (clean water pipes stop disease), and with money and credit, since huge projects live or die on financing. Who gets safe roads and who doesn't also makes inequality and class visible in concrete.
