• The Communication Model Media

  Think of your working memory as a phone with barely any signal, only so much can get through at once. When a lesson feels 'too hard,' often it just means the teacher jammed more into that weak signal than it could carry. That's the same math engineers use to describe any channel, from a wire to a brain, that can only handle so much information.

• Product, Industrial & Interaction Design Arts

  A good app hides its messy code and just gives you a clean button to press. Great teaching does the exact same thing: the expert buries the complicated parts and hands you the one handle you can actually grab. Bad teaching is like a terrible app that dumps every confusing detail on you at once.

• Translation Literature

  Teaching is basically translating: an expert has a rich, compressed idea in their head and has to render it in beginner language. And like any translation, meaning leaks out along the way. That's the 'curse of knowledge', once you deeply know something, you literally forget how to say it to someone who doesn't.
