Their own white paper. Published if it earns it.

Learnacy is where a student explores any subject, tests ideas in interactive labs and writes a white paper, with feedback from an AI writing coach on their drafts. Their best paper can be submitted to The OYI Review and published under their own name.

Publication depends on review and is not guaranteed.

Forty Against Five

India’s Air Standard, the WHO Guideline and What a City’s Own Air Data Can Show

Your name, Your school

Drawn cover of a sample paper, labelled Sample: a city in a haze of fine particles beside a roadside air quality station, with a scale marking India’s standard at 40 and the WHO guideline at 5 micrograms per cubic metre.

Executive Summary

India’s national standard caps the yearly average of fine particles (PM2.5) at 40 micrograms per cubic metre; the WHO’s 2021 guideline is 5. Using one city’s public air quality data, this paper asks what closing that gap would take.

How the year works.

It is self-paced. A student can work in short sessions through the year; a white paper usually takes several sittings of writing and revising.

Accepted on merit. Never on payment.

Every paper is scored against a rubric anyone can read.

Essential pays for the tools, the courses and the feedback. It never buys acceptance.

How review works

The review rubric

A paper can be accepted when it averages at least 4 out of 5 with no criterion below 3, and passes the editorial checks; otherwise the student gets changes to make.

A score here holds the paper back, whatever the average.

The review rubric: 6 criteria, each scored from 1 to 5. Scores that hold a paper back are hatched. An average of 4 or more is marked in orange.
Criterion 1Beginning2Developing3Competent4Strong5Excellent
Thesis & argumentIs there a clear, specific central argument, and does everything in the paper serve it? 12345
Evidence & rigourAre claims backed by credible, well-used evidence? Is the reasoning sound, with no unsupported leaps? 12345
Structure & flowLogical progression, clear sections, easy for a reader to follow start to finish? 12345
Independent thoughtDoes the reasoning contribute a considered perspective? This criterion does not establish authorship or certify originality. 12345
Policy relevanceAre the recommendations concrete, actionable and realistic in the real world, not vague or utopian? 12345
Writing & clarityPrecise, readable prose; correct grammar; a tone appropriate for a serious policy paper? 12345

Will the paper be published?

Only if it passes review. Every paper is reviewed against the same rubric, and some are sent back with changes to make. That is what makes an accepted paper mean something. Essential pays for the tools, the courses and the feedback. It never buys acceptance. Publication depends on review and is not guaranteed. How review works.

What happens when the year ends?

Everything the student wrote stays saved in their account, and they can keep editing it. A free account keeps up to five drafts, so a new draft past that means deleting an old one first. Feedback from the AI writing coach and submitting a paper need an active Learnacy Essential.

Who is it for?

Students in Grades 8 to 12 who ask “why”, like to read and argue, and want to do serious work before university. They can write in 15 formats, from white papers to essays.

Enter the student’s email at checkout and they sign in with it. Learnacy Essential is non-refundable once activated, except where a refund is required by law. Read the refund and cancellation policy.

Start free.

With a free Learnacy account, the student can start, save and keep up to five drafts in every format in the Writing Studio, explore World 101’s map and open the 2D version of every lab. AI feedback and submitting a paper need Learnacy Essential.
